Hi, and welcome to Apple Support Communities.
Go to System Preferences > Sound
Slide the volume bar to increase the sound and check the box to "Show volume in menu bar" in order to get the icon back.
This box is and was checked, but there is no output device selected. So still no Icon sadly. Any other thing I might be able to do?
Have you tried resetting the PRAM? The speaker volume is stored in PRAM, so resetting it may help.

If there is still no output device available to be selected, you could try plugging headphones (or a speaker set) into the headphone port.
Sometimes plugging and unplugging headphones several times can "wake up" the internal speakers.
Resetting my PRAM totally worked, thanx!!!
