iLife11 won't install

I re-installed Snow Leopard (10.6.3) today to clean up my Macpro which has been quite hinky and slow. Since doing so I have not been able to reintall iLife 11. I get a message saying the installation failed and to contact the manufacturer. (??) I do not have Apple CAre and frankly have NO IDEA how to get help from Apple. I've never needed their help before. Any ideas?

Wow that was the answer. i tried everything to install ilife 11 and it would not install. i changed the date to 2010 and it installed. Thanks for posting this answer. i can't believe that a company would play a game like this. Instead of tricking people into going and buying a new laptop, they make people like me want to NEVER buy another apple laptop.

It is one of Apple's ways to make software safe. Any installer has to be signed by a valid developer certificate, and the certificates expire after three years. This way you will not install software by developers whose certificate has been revoked. That is no problem for software purchased from the AppStore, because the certificates are updated, but you will have the same problem with all older software on CDs, or DVDs, because the certificate will no longer be valid. But you rarely should need to reinstall from the original media anyway, unless you wipe the drive. Usually reinstalling by migrating from a Time Machine backup or bootable clone is much faster.

I just came across this error while performing a fresh install of snow leopard on a 2010 iMac. For me it was the application DVD, but this error may also show up for xCode from what I understand. After some research, I discovered the error stems from an expired cyrtography certification. Was rather annoyed that my restoration disc shipped with a $1700 computer has an expiration date, but this is not the proper time for that rant.

The "fix" is rather easy. Just go into your system preferences and set the date back to before the cert expires. I used some random date in 2010 to be safe. The installer should work correctly now. After installation, just reset your date to the current date.

Hey, Mike:

First off, thanks for the tip! Same problem here; wiping a Snow Leopard machine down and re-installing. Reset the date to when I bought the machine in Oct 2010, now everything's hunky dory. How the heck did you discover this anyway?

Second: seriously, Apple, ***???

Third: when I tried to sign in to this page to comment using Safari, I got a warning saying the certificate for this page couldn't be trusted. Major lulz, there.

Thanks again for the help.
