Is it possible to "Click Lock " the trackpad

is it possible to "Click Lock " the track pad. For example, in aperture , using brushes you " click" and hold to activate the brush feature and mouse over the area you wish to work, with a click lock the trackpad can be used as a paint tablet. A keyboard short cut ?

Just use two fingers: I click-and-hold with my left index finger, then place my right index finger on the trackpad and drag to adjust -- during which I can lift and re-place my right finger any time and as many times as I want, and then when I satisfied with the setting, lift my left index finger. I use the trackpad as a mini paint tablet all the time.

Practicing with the crop tool should show this method to its advantage.

I'm not aware of a "click-lock", though it sounds like something that is likely available.

The methode Kirby described is the one, that gives you the most control and freedom to move the fingers with high precision if you want to use the trackpad for pinting. Just in case you have not yet dicovered how to enable this mode in MacOS Lion:

In Mac OS Lion some settings fro the trackpad have been moved to the Universal Access Preference pane:

System Preferences:Universal Access:Mouse & Trackpad:Trackpad Options

Here you can enable the "tab to drag" that Kirby described, and also activate "drag lock".

See this discussion: Lion and Magic Trackpad: drag lock gone?

but it would be nice not to have to keep the track pad depressed with one hand while working with the other, if possible

That is what "drag-lock" will do for you, as I pointed out in the post above. You double-tab (with one finger) the starting point of a brush path, then drag (and paint) with one finger, and tab once to mark the end. This way, you do not tire so quickly, but Kirby's two-finger style allows for more precise working. I find it difficult to get the starting point precise, if you have to double tab quickly.
