Q: I have a new Fujiyama Video/Camera DDV-348HD & can't download the videos - help please!

I bought a new Fujiyama Video Camera DDV-348HD in Hong Kong last month.  I was assured this camera was compatable with Apple BUT it's NOT.

Funnily enough I can download the stills.  The camera is genuine, Fujiyama confirmed this.  They also confirmed that it is not compatable with Apple.

When I try to download, the computer recognises the downloads as IMAG003.AVI (then running numbers on the 00?) - it shows the size and the 'Kind', i.e. AVI movie.  It just tells me it is not a compatable file.

I have tried Conversion Software, but there is nothing downloaded to convert - obviously

I have downloaded VLC Streamer - it doesn't work - both of these recommended by Apple Support Staff

Fujiyama was useless, i.e. no advice

The camera supplier has not responded to me - of course

I just feel that if the computer can partially recognise that there is a AVI file of some sort that it says is not compatable, then there MUST be some way of opening the files.

I have a Mac with Lion and the new iPad (and an iPhone) all linked by iCloud.

Can anyone help please or does anyone want to but a Fujiyama DDV-348HD camera that does work on PC's???

Looks like you bought a pig in a poke. If you've exhausted all support with Fujiyama try to google your issue and see if there are other folks out there with a similar problem. Sometimes you get lucky and someone out there solved it. You need to expand upon your search parameters.

After 1,5 year I have at least found an answer to the problem.

I found the software at http://handbrake.com/ which enabled me to convert to e.g. new iPad format.

After converting the files I importet them to Pinnacle Studio with no problem (PS could not open this files before).

I havent tried to import it into my Mac Pro yet, but I'm quite sure it will work!

They got a trial version on their site so you can try it before purchasing Wondershare Video Converter Ultimate.

I've tried a lot of converting programs earlier with out sucsess, so to day is a good day.

Glad I didn't sell the camera in frustration :-)
