Video Editing: Mac Pro vs. Imac

I'm going to be editing professionally from home and am interested in purchasing a desktop computer to do so. At the apple store, the genius guys recommended the iMac with thunderbolt ports over the MAc pro desktop. Just wondering if anyone has recommendations for either and why? I willl have both Media Composer 5 (Avid) and Final Cut but much prefer Avid.
