Q: Connecting Macbook Pro via Displayport for audio/video and USB
I have a Macbook Pro (early 2011, 15") that I wish to connect to a Dell U2412M. The latter has a speaker attached to it as well as USB ports. Can I connect the mini displayport to the Displayport on the monitor for a single-cable audio/video/USB solution? If so, then what cables will work for this- since some lower-end cables specifically mention they don't support audio via Displayport. Would it be possible/ preferable to use a MDP-HDMI adapter and then use a HDMI-DP cable?
Things that I already know: my laptop supports audio via the mini displayport; if I connected to a monitor with HDMI port- I would be able to use it for audio and video (not sure about USB though); the speaker is not a part of the monitor, it needs to be connected- but it is easier to keep it connected to the monitor than to connect it to the MBP every time.
Thanks a lot for your help and time.
