Q: My Macbook Pro shipped  with OS X Lion.  I want to do a hardware test but the internet based version has never worked?

I have never been able to do a hardware test with my macbook pro, contrary to the manual instructions.  With OS X Lion apparently the test is internet based, however, this has never worked either.  The reason I want to do this test is to problem solve my audio input and internal microphone not working.  My tech support warranty has expired but my hardware warranty has not.

MacBook Pro (15-inch Early 2011), Mac OS X (10.7.3)

    10.7 Lion.

Restart your computer, holding down the “D” key while the computer restarts.

After your computer restarts, you should see the Apple Hardware Test chooser screen. If you don’t, Apple Hardware Test may not be available on your computer. You may be able to start Apple Hardware Test from the Internet. Reconnect your computer to the network, and then restart your computer while holding down both the Option and “D” keys.

The above written paragraph is from Apple kb article.

Hold down both the Option and D keys while restarting the computer.

Computer is still under warranty. It is a good idea to make use of it.

    Best.
