My son and daughter are vibrating while playing the iPad 3 when it is charging, does anyone else have this happening.

I bought an iPad 3 last week and straight out of the box I noticed a small vibration where the aluminum meets the glass on the side . Last night while charging my son was playing temple run, when I touched his bare back I noticed the same slight vibration and could feel it all over his body. My wife felt it too, through our daughter as well, only when the iPad is charging, is this happening to anyone else?

I'm charging with numerous wall chargers, all the same, have tried it at the neighbors, still the same. What i want to know is are all the ipads the same in this regard or not. Having electrical currents surging through your children is certainly something Apple Have not listed as one of the benefits of their new iPad. Thx 4 the reply ;)

I know this was post was a while ago but this has just happened and shocked me so much that i had to write something. My daughter was standing next to me as I had the ipad 2 on my lap charging and when I touched her hand her arms were vibrating all over as if she was having an electrical current passed through her. My other two children were nearby and it did not affect them in the same way. She was not even touching the ipad, just standing near it. It made me want to throw it out of the nearest window and get it as far away from her as possible though! It makes me wonder now about all these people who walk around with tinfoil hats, perhaps they are not so silly after all!

If your daughter was not touching the iPad, what makes you think it was responsible? If electricty were arcing from the iPad to your daughter, you would see it and she'd be doing an awful lot more than vibrating. Did you feel the iPad vibrating (really more of a tingling)?

The reason that iPads sometimes vibrate slightly when being charged is because of a grounding (earthing) issue. The current is negligible and harmless to anyone without a pacemaker (probably wouldn't hurt them either). Feeling the vibration requires physical contact.

I'm sure it's not that uncommon. All my children vibrate when they are holding my iPhone while it is charging. They aren't allowed to touch it while it's charging now. Both this house and the old house. All sorts of cables. Three generations of iPhone. It's quite noticeable. I'm really not sure how that can be harmless

I'm also not sure how it can be a grounding issue since Australian plugs have three prongs. One is the earthing prong. I've just accepted it as an unavoidable side effect, so they can't use it unless it's charged.

If it makes you feel any better, my brothers and I discovered an electric sign that was apparently not properly grounded when we were vacationing one year. It had a noticeable current that you could feel when you touched it. We used to think it was really fun to have one of us grab the sign post, and then the we would hold hands to pass the current through to the person at the end.....

We did this for several days (several times a day) until our Mom caught us. 😮

To the best of my knowledge, none of us were negatively affected by it 😝

Cheers,

GB

It is not uncommon at all for DC adapters to impart a fairly large AC leakage on the device-side "ground" (i.e. iPad housing). The AC voltage can easily be 40-80 VAC even with "normal" electrical wiring, but the AC current is limited to government-mandated safe levels, so it is harmless. If you have a multimeter laying around, measure the AC voltage on your iPad housing, you'll see ... and this is quite normal.
