The new ipad personal hotspot doesn't worked...(Malaysia)

Hi, i bought a new ipad with wifi 4g 32gb yesterday. I am facing problem when i try to set my new ipad as a hotspot. I have tried with my celcom simcard and I can't find any personal hotspot setting in my ipad , how could like that?

Somemore, i was confirmed with the salesman that the personal hotspot function sure can work for the new ipad that i buy. But UNFORTUNATELY the new ipad was failed with that. I am so DISSAPPOINTED....can i get refund for that?

If i knew the new ipad cannot function as a hotspot, i am sure i will not buy it !!

The carrier has to specifically support the hotspot:

In addition, you must have Personal Hotspot enabled on your cellular plan. Refer to this article for a list of carriers that support Personal Hotspot.

Note: Carriers may not offer Personal Hotspot on both iPhone and iPad Wi-Fi + 4G. If you don't see the option on your iPad Wi-Fi + 4G, contact your carrier to ensure that it is available.

Just now i called Celcom already, i just informed that they are not support the personal hotspot.

After that, i try ask digi, they are very sure that DIGI have offer the personal hotspot if the new ipad got this feature like iphone.

So, now i am trying to find who are using DIGI micro simcard, i wanna know whether it works or not.

Because Mac City told me is the carrier problem, not ipad problem.

Dear lllaass

are you an Apple representative? If so here my findings.

I signed up with 2 mobile Data Plan here in Malaysia:

1- with Digi, since March last year for my iPhone 4

2- with Celcom, since about late August last year for an "alternative" OS tablet.

I have always interchangeably used both iPhone (Digi) and the "alternative" OS tablet (Celcom) to tether internet connection from each device respectively. Thus the notion that Digi and Celcom does not support the Personal Hotspot feature is errornous.

Now, I was the first in line to queue for the New iPad, that's how enthusiastic I was to get my hands on it, one reason being that, the Personal Hotspot feature is very important to me.

I am disappointed as well to learn that the New iPad, did not show / reveal the Personal Hotspot menu, in any of the Settings sub-menus available.

I have swapped both microsims (Digi and Celcom) into the New iPad and it does not seem to change anything. the Personal Hotspot menu is still missing.

Both micro sims worked just fine when i set personal hotspot from the iPhone 4. That rules out Digi and Celcom having any interventions when it comes to the availability/ support of the Personal Hotspot feature. It drills down to one factor, Apple through it's iOS 5.1, did not live up to it's promises as advertised during the launch/announcement of the New iPad. I still have the video as evidence.

I have reset my network settings, i have restarted the New iPad...nothing seems to bring the Personal Hotspot menu back. Nothing seems to be bringing the Personal Hotspot menu as it is reflected on the iPhone 4.

I am writing to you now on my Mac OS X Lion connecting wirelessly to my iPhone 4 (Digi).

I judge that this is by now a known issue, so my question is, how soon can you fix this?

Did you guys contact your reseller?

Yesterday, my reseller told me that he discuss with his technician already, they think is the new ipad problem because the word "personal hotspot" never show under the network setting. So he try to contact with Apple to ask.

Hope he can reply me as soon as possible.

If anyone of here solved the problem, please inform...thanks...

Here in the US the Verizon iPad supports the wifi hotspot function, but the AT&T pad does not. The pads are exactly the same, but AT&T does not support the function. The att pad does not showmthe option, since the signal is blocked. When the pad connects to the carrier, it gets a signal to tell it whether to display the option or not.

So continue your discussion with your local carrier. I believe it is under their control. They have to support the function, and you have to sign up for it and agree to the extra fee.

i read all post, and i have same problem but...

i use the same sim card i use in hotspot wifi (r201), in ipad and not work this function.

i put the same sim in my iphone and work, hotspot.

conclusion i have.

this function is not activated in ios 5.1 for "AT carriers", for ipad´s, because i try the same on ipad1 and 2 and not work. the problem is not from ipad.
