Well if your selecting System Preferences from the Apple Menu and nothing happens right, or your System Preferences are not being saved, you likely have a corrupt


com.systempreferences.plist


file located in your


~/Library/Preferences


folder.


Use the Finder > Go > Go to folder to open it and remove the copy of file you can (there may be two of them, one is locked) and reboot the computer and launch System Preferences and it should be fixed.


If not, likely you might have to reinstall OS X perhaps.
