Q: extended network, some big troubles

Hi to all, and thank you for your attention

I've got a time capsule (3th gen) and a airport extreme (4th gen)

Since a while, and with some trouble when I set it up, I'm using the extreme to extend the wireless network of the timecapsule (the 2 devices are wired togheter)

Now.. yesterday I'd to disconnect the time capsule and to move it in a different position... now, after reconnection nothing works!!!

I start hating these devices.

If I disable the wireless in the extreme, it get the ip via calbe from the time capsule and it works well as switch.

But if I turn on the option to extend the network it's a big mess: the extreme want to share wireless VIA wireless connetion, so it get an IP via wireless and nothing works!

By using the application 5.6 (the new one has got much less function) I can see that it want share network via wireless, but the option it's gayed out and I can't switch it on via network.

In any case... it does not work.

If I use the 6.0 app, and I set up the network automatically, even as extended network, it enable the option "create a new network" with the same option of the network of the time capsule.. so another big mess!!!

Please help me.

I've just a doubt: by extending a network the 2 devices have to "see" each other via wireless? Because, I know that the extreme can connect to time capsule via wireless (IT DOES in fact) but maybe I'm thinking the problem could be in the new location of the time capsule.

Please give me some hints, it makes me crazy!

Marco

If the two base stations will be connected by Ethernet, then you want to follow the directions in this Apple Support article. However, if you want the connected by wireless, then you will want to use this article instead.

    thanx alot

just for resuming: when stations are cable connected the correct procedure is NOT to set up "extend the network" but to "create a new network" indicating the same network name for each station

    That is absolutely correct!
