Can't open PDF files in iBooks on my iPad

When I open a PDF file in Safari the file displays fine. When I touch the "Open in iBooks" button the PDF flashes briefly on the iBooks bookshelf, then disappears. I have tried this over and over the with the same results.

Previously, I was able to get the PDF's to stay on the book shelf after 3 tries. Rebooting the iPad corrects the problem for getting only one PDF on the bookshelf, then no other PDF's will come into iBooks until I reboot. Since I have dozens of file to get into iBooks rebooting is not a viable solution.

Anyone else having this problem? My iBooks is version 2.1.1 (908)

I think cavison is correct and it is a capacity issue. I tried to put a PDF on my husband's iPad 2, which had zero PDFs in iBooks and all the same versions of everything that mine has. It went perfectly, darn it.

I had previously attempted on my own ipad 2, to delete a PDF in iBooks and then put it back in iBooks and that didn't work. I checked & I've used 125 MB in iBooks and 153 pretty small PDFs. I have 11.4 GB still available on my iPad, so it must be the capacity of iBooks that has reached its limit for PDFs.

first, it depends on how you define "widespread" looks like there a whole bunch of folks here from all parts of the country having the same issue, is that widespread? bottom line is, i am sure that apple would rather have me using ibooks (which is a apple proprietary property) than ammo rack to store my data. i'm sure when this gets figured out (and it will) the root cause will be something very simple.

From Merriam-Webster: "Widely diffused or prevalent <widespread public interest>"

No it isn't widespread just because a handful of users are reporting it. And I seriously doubt Apple cares where you are storing PDFs. That isn't the principal function of iBooks. As suggested above, offer some feedback to Apple, check the versions and extraneous content of the PDFs, and find an alternate app.

Perhaps someone else will run across a feasible cause and/or fix. Good luck.

I went to the Genius Bar about this and they were stumped. They had never heard of this happening before. They asked me to come back the next day so they could check into it. They asked me to run thru the restore process and come back for,my appt. if nothing changed. I went back yesterday. They said that they're finding it isn't happening to everyone so it's strangely spotty. I was told to wait until there was either an iBooks update or iOS update. If it doesn't fix the issue then go back to the Genius Bar... FWIW, at least they know about it.

Just rebooted....and it works now....but Apple needs to debug this app looks like. Not good.

And they better get it fixed so we can save all kinds of files to the file system or somewhere. The new Skydrive from MS is a killer app....far outpacing icloud. And with the looming Win8 on tablet with a full pc OS coming....going to be interesting competition. Will be quite a feat to have a full OS wtih file system on a tablet....great competition for us customers.

But the ibook thing seems to be fixing itself with reboot after opening attachment from email., Will see if it lasts.
