Can't open PDF files in iBooks on my iPad

No PDF Reader on my ipad 1 and ibooks 2.1.1 is not working yet

Open a pdf attachment from the mail application. Touch the box with the arrow coming out of it and see what the default app is (above the "Open in" tab). Mine was PDF Reader. It changed to iBooks when I deleted PDF Reader, and it changed back to PDF Reader when I reinstalled it.

There must be certain apps that take over as the default. This would explain why it isn't happening to everyone.

My default app is ibooks, though not working.

The application on the top of my list is also iBooks.

I had the same problem. Check if you have the Adobe Reader app installed. If yes remove it. It will enable ibooks again. For some reason Adobe Reader seems to disable the "save PDF to iBooks option"

No, it doesn't. I have both installed and can open PDFs in either. I beleive the open with list, however, is limited to ten items.

Nope, it doesn't. Tried this morning after the update.

What about genius bar and Apple support ?

I have been having the same problem. The default app that came up when I would do "open in" was GoodNotes. I deleted that app and could then open the pdf in iBooks with iBooks as the default. Put GoodNotes back on and iBooks is still the default. So maybe there is something conflicting in that app. I also see a gazillion more apps that will read pdf files now when I do the "open in" through Mail.

Deleting Adobe also brought back Good Reader, my favourite app, to the options list....thanks for the tip

With my Ipad2 ios5.1.1. I experienced the same issue of the PDF appearing in iBook then it

would quickly vanish. I have hundreds of pdfs in iBook already and for awhile if I tried loading the

PDF 3 times it would finally work but now not at all.

I discovered when I went to back up my iPad that in the iTunes> Library> Books folder that there were

many PDF's that had multiple copies. Went through and deleted all the extra copies of the original PDF's,

then synced the iPad2 and now I can load PDF's again.
