i have OSX 10.5.8 What do i need to purchase to upgrade to the latest lion software? and how do I get it? thanks

First of all your Mac must meet the specs for Lion

• Mac computer with an Intel Core 2 Duo, Core i3, Core i5, Core i7, or Xeon processor
• 2GB of memory
• OS X v10.6.6 or later (v10.6.8 recommended)
• 7GB of available space

If it does then you must purchase and install Snow Leopard

Upgrade to Snow Leopard 10.6.8 so that you have App Store to purchase Lion

Purcahse and install Lion from the App Store

I think Snow Leopard requires an Intel Mac.

No thinking about it at all, Snow Leopard will only install on Macs that have an Intel processor.
