How do I fix a slow script problem on safari?

I am getting a Slow Script error message that reads: Safari is no longer responding because of a script on the webpage http://www.facebook.com/. Do you want to stop running the script, or let it continue? Sometimes it will give me another message that says: Safari is no longer responding because of a script on the webpage “Start New Discussion : Apple Support Communities” (https://discussions.apple.com/post!input.jspa?container=2097&containerType=14&qu estion=How+do+I+fix+a+slow+script+problem+on+safari%3F). Do you want to stop running the script, or let it continue? How do I correct this problem?

I'm still running Safari 4.1.3, so this may not apply to later versions. But I fixed it by going to the "Develop" pull-down and hitting "Disable Runaway JavaScript Timer." Apparently, Safari detects website scripts that take longer than 15 seconds to run on your machine and gives you the option of not running them. But that itself takes an annoyingly long time. If you disable the timer, it you can still scroll around on the web page, and you don't get the message. Whatever script was giving you problems may or may not load by the time you leave the page. It's usually an ad or something you don't care about, anyway.
