I upgraded, and I want to use a first generation iPhone as a non-phone iPod with wifi capability. Possible?

Yes but if it was restored you must insert a sim card to activate it after that you can remove the card and every thing should work still.
Sans phone function.
Tried restore several times, but it won't connect to wifi even with sim card.
Then it maybe a hardware failure.
I thought the same, but up until yesterday when I activated the new phone, wifi worked on the old phone. I suspect it's something software related.
