Try sucking in air through the headphone jack, speaker, and charging port. Also try blowing in the headphone jack, speaker, and charging port.

Thanks for this simple fix! Still works in 2016 with iPhone 6+ using power/home button. Not sure why just turning phone off/on doesn't reboot like this, but also don't care, because I'm out of headphone mode for zero dollars down. And I tried everything before this - hair dryer; plugging/unplugging under various circumstances; absorbent paper wad; lots and lots of screaming. Nothing worked until this trick.

    You rock Ocean20!!!

Hey friends! Great discussion and thanks for a lot great tips! So i've come to realize that many people will have a variety of different reasons as to why their phone is stuck on headphone mode despite no headphones in the jack. I cannot tell you the frustration I endured considering I had just gotten the screen replaced a week prior and alas another issue appeared yet again. I tried the Q-tip technique (took off the cotton and kind of wiggled it around in the jack) but to no avail. I took a flashlight into the jack and saw nothing so at that point I realized it may have been a software issue. I started and restarted my phone, restored it, did EVERYTHING. nothing worked THEN I TRIED...swiping up on my home screen to get to the screen that shows (flashlight, quick access camera, etc) and right above these option display airdrop and then I noticed it had the headphone with a checkmark by it....I was like hmmm ok. I clicked on it and then I unchecked the "headphone" option and selected "airplay" option instead. AND IT WORKED! immediately toggled the sound on the phone and it said "ringer" instead of "headphone" If none of the options about cleaning out the jack work for you, try exploring this option!! As well as restoring it, turning it on/off, etc. This headphone malfunction happens for many reasons so it may take some time to figure out the exact reason. DONT GIVE UP!! most of the time it can be cured without a trip to the Apple Store.
