Hi, any idea on how to connect the Time Capsule to UNIFI (broadband over Fibre) svc in Malaysia. The curr config is Modem to fibre terminal

Hi,

Any idea on how to connect a Time Capsule to the Unifi (broadband over Fibre) service in Malaysia.

The current configueration is Fibre Terminal => Modem => Dlink router (supplied by Unifi). The router uses PPPoe to connect to unifi.

The problem is that when i try to replce the existing router with a time capsule, and input the PPPoe username and password into the TC, it is unable to connect to the internet and error is something like, it does not get a PPPoe response from the modem.

Any help would be appreciated. I want to replace the d-link router with the TC and not go into the bridge mode scenarios.

Thanks

I had same problem but UniFi guys came over and fixed it. This is how:

- Modem connects to WiFi Router as usual. Connected as PPOE.

- WiFi Router LAN1 ethernet connects to Time Capsule (i.e. uses WiFi Router as a bridge, Time Capsule cannot be connected direct to Modem).

- On your computer, find the Airport Utility. Select Time Capsule icon, hit "Edit". Under "Internet - Connect using:" select "DHCP". Hit "Update".

The Time Capsule connection to the WiFi Router needs to be DHCP, not PPOE.

I have no idea why this works. But everything is up and running now! 😀

But if you want to connect the Time Capsule direct to the Modem, here are some more complex tutorials:

You maybe stuck..

PPPoE in the TC is definitely aimed at adsl.. and even that has been a bit problematic lately.

What firmware revision is the TC at?? I would try 7.5.2 at least if you are on 7.6 or later.

They messed up a lot of stuff in the later ones.

Can you set the ethernet speed.. when in pppoe wan mode.. just try setting to 100mbit full duplex, as occasionally gigabit is an issue.

If no luck you might just have to use it bridged.

Normally fibre is supplied to a simple converter. fibre to ethernet.. the modem is really not a modem in traditional sense.. but it may be worth shutting it down at the same time as you change over devices.. just to be on the safe side.

Since you just bought the TC.. I would think seriously about returning it as unsuitable for the task. If you cannot get it to login via pppoe on standard equipment supplied by ISP in Malaysia, then I see no reason to keep it. There are other better products that can be used as a router and TM is fairly common on the better brand NAS.

Apple needs to do some more basic work in sorting some of the routing issues.. but without access to decent log info or error info we seldom can work out what is infact going wrong.
