Imac G5running really slow recently.

I moved everything to external HD, and lost all my applications. Got some back and retrieved Data etc: In last 2 months my GG5 has ben running really slowly. Can I remove Temporary files etc?? and how.

iMac DVD, Mac OS X (10.2.x)
