I had this problem, too. I left my iPhone in the car for an hour and it got too hot. Got the yellow triangle on my screen warning that the temperature was too high. The phone was dead. So, I let the phone cool down for a couple of hours, then I plugged it into my MacBook Pro and held down the iPhone's power button and home button together for 20 seconds, and fixed the problem. Hooray!

Try this , put it in the freezer for couple of minutes around 25 minutes until the whole body gets really cold and then charge it until something pops in the screen .

If it doesn't turn on after 10min being charge, turn it on by pressing hold on the power botton .

if it doesn't turn on , keep it charged and press down the home botton and the power botton together until it turns on .

If it doesn't work , keep trying , you have nothing to lose .

My phone died suddenly while it was on 90% battery when I was in a hot country for vacation and I did this and it work just fine after . I freezed it and charged it . The body and interior has probably gone through over heat since iphone is made of metal and because it is a electronic device.

I don't care this post is over 5 years old. It applied to me. However I might have 2 problems. I have an iPhone 7 which my son told me is waterproof (should have checked and verified it was only water resistant). I had it notify me a few days ago it was too hot and shut down. I was able to recharge it. However I have taken it into the pool, ocean, etc for 5 days and today combination of water and sun may have killed it. Won't charge at all. Hoping letting it cool down for a few days might solve the problem, hoping it is not the water damage.
