I am looking to export a long list of messages from my iPhone to my computer to be saved for later viewing. I am wondering if anyone know how, or has had any experience of successfully doing so. Any pointers, or even just how to do it would be great!

We use the decipher text message software at our small law firm since we are required to save (and print out) sms chats with our clients. Meanwhile, I never knew "option key" + go menu would make that hidden library show up!
I have a lot of messages in some conversations, and in order to see them on my iPhone, I need to go to the top of the conversation and select "Load Earlier Messages." Does this program save ALL of those messages as well?
You have to buy the program, and I believe it was $20. It is a flat rate for the appliaction, and does not charge per use. But be aware that it doesn't not support exporting iMessages, yet. I emailed them to ask and they said that they were working on a new version that would make this a capability for TouchCopy, but nothing yet.
Here is a workaround that does not require third party software. If sent to an email address the text messages are combined into a basic txt file, so it's not aesthetic, and any pictures are attached separate from the txt file -- but it works and is instantaneous right from your phone's Messages app.

PS: I tried that prior to posting and it didnt work. I run my own business and I have a lot of info in my old phone that I require hence the reason for the post as I have had enough of carrying 2 phones around
You can back up your iPhone to computer with iTunes. The backup contains your text messages. But this data is an unreadable, you cannot read and open it. But you can still transfer text messages from iPhone to computer. Emailing them to yourself and view this email on computer.

The app SMS Export ($4.99) will allow you to export your SMS to the software on both your Mac and Windows.
You can make a back-up of your entire SMS-database or export the SMS-messages to your computer:

It will allow you to export all messages on your phone, and a whole lot more.
