Resolution
iTunes installs a device filter which helps it work with your optical drive. If this device filter is missing, you will see the message mentioned above. To resolve this issue, reinstall iTunes to put the device filter back in place. To reinstall iTunes, follow the steps in the article below appropriate to your OS:
___
So do I uninstall iTunes, do this fix, and then reinstall it? OR do I install iTunes, do this fix, and then restart the comp and poof it works.. I will try both ways since there is really no answer anywhere.

Apr 23, 2012 5:24 PM in response to proflashrtistby proflashrtist,Nope.. still got the msg... apple *****
I shouldn't have to go through this much hassle in the first palce just to install the software for a phone that i PAID $800 EFFING DOLLARS FOR! It's pathetic.
That being said, I unstalled itunes, restarted...performed the steps listed here: http://support.apple.com/kb/TS3299
and as usual it didn't work. I left itunes on, then tried the process, restarted and tried to open itunes, same BS again. I've tried all the angles and they just don't work, so it's time for a new answer.
