OS is not booting on imac g5

Hi,

I have a IMAC g5 PPC based machine. It was working fine before several days.Leopard 10.5.8 is intalled on it.Currently i am not able to boot OS.Whenever I power on the machine is stops at brown screen(with apple logo). I have tried to start in safe mode as well as single user mode. I am able to start it in single user mode but after 1-2 mins automattically it shows an error like this.

"ioatacontroller device blocking bus"

And after that system got stuck.

I dont have any OS bootable disk. From where can I download the source of OS which I can install on IMAC g5 PPC based machine.

Or any ideas to come out from this?

THanks in advance...!!!!!!

You can't download any OS from the net, you have to buy the discs, either on eBay or Craig's List. Make very sure that you get a RETAIL copy of the OS, not a machine secific grey disc.

You can also contact Apple Customer Relations 800-767-2775 and give them your serial number.

HI,

Thanks for your reply Miriam.

I dont have bootable disk. I have a .dmg image stored in my mac. I want to restore it. I am able to start my machine in single user mode. How can I restore it using single user mode? I have two different partition and each partition contains an OS.

THanks.

Unless that DMG was properly made for the operating system CD in question, it won't be able to create a bootable CD for your Mac. That said:

1. No PowerPC Mac came with 10.5

2. All iMac G5s came with 10.4.2 or earlier.

3. 10.4.3, 10.4.6, 10.5, 10.5.1, 10.5.4, and 10.5.6 "retail" installer discs will boot all iMac G5s.

4. Only the prebundled installer discs labelled iMac G5 that shipped with the Mac new will install Appleworks, World Book, Quicken pre-bundled, Quickbooks pre-bundled, games, and/or iLife prebundled versions that came with the iMac when its vintage was first shipped.

5. Article http://support.apple.com/kb/HT2191 tells you what OS was prebundled.

6. http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1463 helps you determine the generation iMac G5 you have, to isolate #5.

7. https://discussions.apple.com/docs/DOC-2275 tells you what 10.5 retail looked like, and pitfalls for using 10.5.

8. https://discussions.apple.com/docs/DOC-2541 tells you what 10.4 retail looked like, and pitfalls for using 10.4.
