Q: iTunes Hacked? Unauthorized apps.

I received this email from Apple:

Dear *******,

Your Apple ID, *******, was just used to make a purchase in 快乐棋牌 from the App Store on a computer or device that had not previously been associated with that Apple ID.

If you made this purchase, you can disregard this email. It was only sent to alert you in case you did not make the purchase yourself.

If you did not make this purchase, we recommend that you go to iforgot.apple.com

to change your password, then see Apple ID: Tips for protecting the security of your account

for further assistance.

Regards,

Apple

When I logged on to the iTunes store, it showed 2 apps: Crazy Ants and Happy City. I did not purchase these. What should I do? I called my bank and cancelled my debit card and don't know where to go from here.

Edited to add: They also changed my address and phone number.

Same thing happened to me on 4/24/12. CrazyAnts and a bunch of other "gold" charges. I changed my password on iTunes. But, the credit card they used was in my name, but not mine. It's a MasterCard. But it's not on my credit report, so I don't know what financial institution issued the card. So, I can't dispute the charges with the credit card company. Not sure what to do now. How did this happen? Anyone know?

Same thing happened to me.  $241.69 in charges were refunded by apple to my account.  But, the credit card was not mine.  I think someone hacked my account, changed my credit card info (to a stolen card) and then bought the game and the gold charges.  Why is it that Apple can't track this stuff down when they keep such a tight clamp on the app store????

So, Apple refunded the charges to your account? How did you get them to do that? Did you have store credit that was stolen, or were all the charges on this bogus credit card? Were you able to dispute the charges with the credit card institution?

I was told by MasterCard that I may have to wait a month or so before this bogus credit card will be posted to my credit report. Then I can dispute it with whoever issued it. Apple just emailed me generic advice about how to not fall victim to phishing scams, and I probably gave my password to someone that way. I seriously don't think I did.

Well, they said they did, and I guess it was to the bogus credit card.  I responded to their email but got no response at all.  Apple bascially ***** and they even went out of their way to tell me that this was all my problem.

No one got my password via a phishing scam.  And, why was this bogus app even allowed in the store????  Why is no one prosecuting this dude who wrote the app and then charged in app credits to a stolen credit card?  How much money has this dude made off this scam???

Do these big companies just not care about such small amounts of money?

I guess I just answered my own question.  They can just jack up the price on their products to cover the slight loss of income to cover the destruction of someones credit report....god, I hadn't even thought about the impact on my credit.  I guess I will now be considered a credit card thief
