Downloading Videos Using Real Player

There is the Free iTube Grabber which can capture almost any audio and/or video stream (it says here) but only works with Intel Macs.

Firefox Download Helper is also supposed to work, you have to be logged into YouTube first.

There is also iTubeX which allows you to download videos (Flash, HTML5 and others), .mp3 and .swf files from almost every website as easily as possible:

Last but not least (as some of the above may not work with Snow Leopard or Lion) there is the 'pwn trick':

For example, the full youtube site for your movie is:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bC2XIGMI ... e=youtu.be

As soon as the movie starts, pause it and add 'pwn' in front of the youtube part of the url so it looks like this:

http://www.pwnyoutube.com/watch?v=bC2XI ... e=youtu.be

Hit Return and then follow the instructions.

RealPlayer is still alive and well. An update recently appeared on macupdate.com. But that has nothing to do with downloading youtube videos.

I would say something on this subject but the last time I did the entire post was censored because you violate youtube's TOS by downloading their videos and apparently this place's TOS by saying anything about it.

Yes it does. As the original poster said, "there is a add on called download manager for real player."

That is true, and it's been part of the Mac download for quite a while now. Its job is to do what the other software listed above does, download videos from web sites. Here is the official information on it:

Now, it doesn't mention YouTube, and it's been a while since it worked. It used to work, but I'll bet it got blocked or something. I use a Safari extension to do this now.

OK, I am corrected. While I have realplayer I rearely use it and only if some source supplies a stream only on that form.

can anyone tell me why I can not download videos from youtube anymore? I use to do this with real player downloader but now it does not work. why is this happening? please anyone help.

Youtube's terms do not allow for downloads due to copyright issues unless there is a download button available. Discussing work arounds is not allowed here because we would be violating the terms of use of these forums.

It is happening probably because YouTube may be trying to stay one step ahead of the downloaders by changing their code to break the downloaders.
