Downloading Videos Using Real Player

Im trying to download videos from youtube and other websites. I downloaded the real player from the real.com website.

In windows, if we wish to download, we move thw cursor to the video and a small tab pops up saying "Download". We click on it, it downloads.

Now in Mac, there is a add on called download manager for real player.

I watched a few vieods over the youtube, to guide myself. Instructions were to open real player and download manager.

Then open the link in safari or firefox where your video is and play it, once the video starts streaming, it should appear in the download manager, and i should be able to download it.

But when i follow all these procedures, the video is not appearing in the download manager.

Please help.

Or if anyone can suggest alternate solutions or softwares, please do.....

Thanks,

Vijay

There is the Free iTube Grabber which can capture almost any audio and/or video stream (it says here) but only works with Intel Macs.

Firefox Download Helper is also supposed to work, you have to be logged into YouTube first.

There is also iTubeX which allows you to download videos (Flash, HTML5 and others), .mp3 and .swf files from almost every website as easily as possible:

Lastly: How to download Flash videos and play them in Quicktime using Perian is explained here:

http://perian.org/#watch

It's the video at the bottom of the page.

Last but not least (as some of the above may not work with Snow Leopard or Lion) there is the 'pwn trick':

For example, the full youtube site for your movie is:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bC2XIGMI ... e=youtu.be

As soon as the movie starts, pause it and add 'pwn' in front of the youtube part of the url so it looks like this:

http://www.pwnyoutube.com/watch?v=bC2XI ... e=youtu.be

Hit Return and then follow the instructions.

RealPlayer is still alive and well. An update recently appeared on macupdate.com. But that has nothing to do with downloading youtube videos.

I would say something on this subject but the last time I did the entire post was censored because you violate youtube's TOS by downloading their videos and apparently this place's TOS by saying anything about it.

Yes it does. As the original poster said, "there is a add on called download manager for real player."

That is true, and it's been part of the Mac download for quite a while now. Its job is to do what the other software listed above does, download videos from web sites. Here is the official information on it:

Download videos for free with RealPlayer’s video downloader software

Using RealPlayer’s video downloader, you can download your favorite free online videos from hundreds of Web sites, including StupidVideos.com, MySpace.com, DailyMotion.com, CollegeHumor.com, Atom.com FunnyOrDie.com MetaCafe.com and so many more. It’s the only video downloader you need because it plays the types of files you want it to play, including 3gp, rv, rm, flv, avi, mp4, wmv to name but a few. RealPlayer is more than just video downloader software—it also lets you convert and play virtually any file type. It’s never been easier—and it’s free.

Now, it doesn't mention YouTube, and it's been a while since it worked. It used to work, but I'll bet it got blocked or something. I use a Safari extension to do this now.
