iTunes is not downloading more than one Podcast at a time.

Since two updates ago, when I select multiple podcasts and update them to download the latest episodes, iTunes will only download one at a time. It will show multiple in the "Downloads" window, but it will only actually download them one at a time. The "Allow Simultaneous Downloads" box is checked, and I have uninstalled and reinstalled iTunes.

First thing, are these multiple episodes from the same Podcast provider? Sometimes, a provider will prevent simultaneous downloads; the BBC in the UK only allow two at one time for example.

If not, have you tried seeting the Allow Simulatneous Downloads to off, closing iTunes and then when you next open it, turn Allow Simultaneous Downloads back on again. It's certainly what I would try, incase iTunes has "become confused".

I am having the exact same issue as LennonFiend.

2 updates ago it started to download just one at a time. I have closed the program with the Allow Simulatneous Downloads box both checked and unchecked and it doesnt make a difference when I reopen the program.

If the box is checked, what happens is it will show 3 podcasts have started (by showing the progress bar), however only the first one actually downloads anything. Once it finishes, the second podcast will start actually downloading (and one new one will show that the download progress bar, tho it remains empty until its the "top" podcast. Like it doesnt do anything until everything above it has already finished.

And thats annoying enough, but sorta often... if the first podcast takes too long the lower podcasts that have shown the progress bar but not actually started downloading yet will time out and not download until I tell it to try again.

The only suggestion I can think to offer is just go down the list and double-click the episodes you want to download. This is irritating and I hope Apple puts the old functionality back into downloading podcasts... if it's still there, I can't find it.

As a side note, Allow Simultaneous Downloads only tells iTunes to simultaneously download items in its downloads queue, which slows down your connection.

That sounds like a classic case of the Podcast provider limiting the number of simultaneous downloads to one only. As I asked the original poster; are these Podcasts from the same programme, or even from the same radio station network?

Again, classic symptoms of a Podcast provider limiting the number of simultaneous downnloads. Although this isn't proof, that it's the provider, the question needs to be asked.

I find it extrememly unlikely that cmhogan's suggestion would give you any different results, because the request is simply made in a different way, the queue is the same.

I was refering to downloading different podcasts. For an example... (Im making up the exact podcasts cuz I forget which ones would actually have new issues today).. Bill Burr's podcast will download completely. And then Wait Wait Dont Tell Me will start and download and finish. Once its done it will move on to TED Talks, etc. I think last night when I ran ITunes I had like eight different podcasts download... one at a time.

CMHogan's suggestion used to work when I wanted to download a bunch of one podcast. Well, I think I did what he suggested... I didnt double click... but I used to be able to run down the list clicking "get" to download more than one at a time from a single podcast. Often came in handy with a podcast like the TED Talks which doesnt update for a couple months and then gives you 20 new ones. But this doesnt work anymore. All it does is add them to the download page... but they still download one at a time, just like it does when its different podcasts.

I have had itunes since first iphone, and have been able to figure out most issues through trial and error and googling.

I am having the same issue, basically itunes downloads works IF simultaneous downloads IS NOT CHECKED.

This goes for app or podcast downloads. I can watch the screen to see that more than 1 download at a time fails.

Scenario: uncheck simultaneous downloads. Watch as each item (app or podcast) downloads fine, one at a time. Check off the box and see '2 more" programs become active download (3 in total). The one downloading is fine, the other two hang and eventually give error. This repeats until i uncheck simultaneous downloads.

Then one at a time works, I can even righ click the error downloads and retry and works perfect.

Same PC since over a year ago, same OS, I allow windows updates and itunes updates.

I have fiber cable from pole to 6 inches from my router, plenty of bandwidth.

PC quad core, 16GB ram, gaming rig, no resource issues.

SSD primary drive, etc. This is an itunes program or server issue in my opinion.
