Although it did work some weeks ago, importing from a Canon camcorder Legria HF m31 (PAL ; Europe) doesn't work anymore ! iMac doesn't even recognize the camcorder...
iMac, Mac OS X (10.7.3)
I have the same problem with a Canon LEGRIA HF M56.

it is now resolved...after a software update.... but haven't upgraded yet to Mountain Lion...

Personnaly, I have downloaded a Panasonic plugin (free) that allows iMovie '11 to import the .MTS files directly.
But I also tried "handbrake" that does marvel at converting video files in many formats.
Unfortunately, my Camera is not recognised in iMovie '11 in the list of connected devices. 😟
