I read that it is to activate iMessage or FaceTime. Does that mean every time i restart the phone it will charge me for an international text or is this a one time charge? Is this going to charge me everytime i restart my phone or no? I have also turned off FaceTime but am still using iMessage. Should i turn that one off as well?
Ask T-Mobile. They are not a supported carrier. All supported carriers handle these silently and without charging for them.
I contacted them but they do not have any information on this topic so i was wondering if anyone from personal experience could answer my question.
No-one here can comment on whether T-Mobile will continue to bill you for these or not. That's up to them since they are not a supported carrier in the U.S.
T-Mobile has made lots of noise lately about wanting to provide assistance to iPhone users on their network. You may want to call them back and escalate it up the food chain.
I am sure I am not the only one who has experienced something similar to this. So I am asking for the personal experience of an individual who has been in my situation. I appreciate you trying to help but it just isn't help. Sorry

I am also being charged for so called SMS international messages, despite having Facetime not enabled. How can this be justified? I am with Aldi mobile which uses Telstra Next G network in Australia.
Did you enable iMessage? If so... there's your answer... Switch to a supported carrier if you don't want to be charged.
I don't have a choice of carrier. Where I live Next G is the only service, so I don't have the option to change. I find it disconcerting that one can be debited for services not available, required, nor used. My plan doesn not include international services. I suppose I made the wrong choice when I bought my iPhone 5, as I could have chosen other phones without this disadvantage, had I known...
I am with Amaysim and they use the Optus network in Australia. I got charged for the SMS activation SMS but have restarted my phone many times and have never been charged again. My plan does not cover international texts to any OS number let alone the +44 number in the UK
