Why doesn't apple provide Model info designated for specific country or carrier?

Why doesn't Apple just reveal the model numbers so the consumers know which carrier the iPhone was originally locked to? Instead of having consumers running around to ask multiple carriers in different countries to find out which country or carrier it was locked to begin with.

Because the idea of managing a hundred different models, simply because they were going to different carriers around the globe would be ridiculous. There are regional model numbers, that's enough to deal with. There is no physical difference between a phone sold in the UK, the US, or India. The only difference is in which phones are locked to which carriers which is all managed in software using a relatively easy to update database.

The "solution" to your quandry is buy only from authorized sources.

Becase there is no correlation between model numbers or serial numbers and the carrier a phone is locked to. Any model number can be locked to any carrier, or unlocked.

They are good inputs and they do make sense, it's just there are other forum saying differently as well.

or

Just to name a few.

Although they are not Apple affiliated but few hundreds is still not a big number and if there are lists then that would be helpful.

Just a shot in the dark and wonder if I can get more info out from others.

Thank you all.

Those tables are not reliable. In the early days, when there were far fewer carriers, they were. They may be somewhat useful as the country codes can indicate where they originated and some countries do not sell unlocked phones at all, however, they are becoming fewer all the time. Even AT&T is now unlocking phones, so the indications that all phones of a specific model number sold by/for AT&T are no longer accurate.
