How slow?
What peripheral devices are connected to it?
Try this: System Preferences>Startup Disk, select the icon 'Macintosh HD Mac OS X 10.7.3' and click on 'restart'.
Paul_31, you're solution works for me, but only for 2-3 startups. If I restart my startup disk, I got started within a minute and the 1-2 times after that, it goes fairly fast too, but each time, it takes longer & longer to startup. I have no idea what could slow down my mac, because I always close all apps manually before shutting down. Do you have any other tricks in your magic hat?
How much RAM and how full is your hard drive?
8gig ram and about 239 gig of my 500gig disk is used.. This should be enough to have a quite fast mac I suppose?
Hi - you could try a Safe Boot which sometimes can fix odd behaviour. It runs a few checks/repairs to the system/HD.
Restart holding down the shift key until you see a grey progress bar (the Mac will boot more slowly than usual). Once booted, restart as normal from the Apple menu.
I'll try that one 🙂 thanks
I tried what you told me to, but nothing have changed at all, I needed about 10 minutes to start my imac up.. It's frustrating in some way, to wait that long to only search one thing on the net or read some mails..
There may be problems with your hard disk. Make sure you have reliable backup of all your data as you may need to get it checked over by a technician.
What version of OS X are you running - you could try checking the hard disk yourself, initially. The instructions vary depending on the OS you are running.
Do you have any anti-virus programs installed - Avast, Norton, MacKeeper, etc? Norton, occasionally. and MacKeeper, especially, are renowned for messing up Macs.
I have never installed any antivirus on my mac. I never backed up yet with my imac so no idea how I need to do that..
Good that you don't have AV running. To backup your Mac you will need an external disk. If you are running a version of OS X that is 10.5.x or above you can use the built-in Time Machine. Connect the drive, turn TM on and the Mac will auto backup. If you have a hard drive failure you can easily restore from the backup.
Another possiblity for backup (and the one I prefer, although I do both) is to make a bootable clone of your HD. SuperDuper! or Carbon Copy Cloner are the two apps that most on here seem to recommend. I've used both but now rely on CCC.
Thanks for your help. I did backup my Mac, so I suppose now I need to see a technician..? Is there no other way round to fix this on my own (reïnstall or such?)
