HI,
Your Log says OS X 10.4.11
This should be iChat 3.1.9
With iChat open can you go to the iChat menu and select About iChat and confirm this ?
Which version is your boyfriend using ?
This should not make a great deal of difference but I like to know just to be sure.
Your Firewall in Tiger (OS X 10.4.x) will look a little like this.
http://www.ralphjohns.co.uk/iChatPicsFolder/6%20iChat%20Ports/slides/4_iChat_Por ts_Firewall-NeworEdit.html
Use the right facing arrow to see the next pic.
An AIM Name (This could be one from AIM or Apple ones ending @mac.com or @me.com from MobileMe)
Unfortunately iChat of this age cannot use iCloud issued @me.com names) will log in to the AIM Servers on port 5190 by default.
Whilst you are logged out you can edit the Server Setting tab and change the port to 443
(In the iChat Menu > Preferences > Accounts > Account info > deselect "Use this Account")
The Server should be login.oscar.aol.com (you don't need to change this).
As well as being allowed in the Firewall (Along with the others in the Pics on my site) those ports need to be allowed in your Modem or router.
Do you know if your router is using UPnP ?
This allows the apps to tell the router which ports to open and is the easiest set up>
If it was working before he left and does not now then the chance are that the issue is at his end.
Error 8 refers to a Connection Issue.
Unfortunately it is a bit of a catchall from iChat not having internet access to breaks in the connection that iChat cannot control.
Exclude Connecting by Wifi and Ethernet at the same time.
This gives the computer two IP addresses and iChat cannot resolve this.
Get the boyfriend to check he has allowed iChat through his router (presumably this is different to the one he was using at home).
