Excel does not open

Hello,

When I try to open an existing excel file I get the following error message:

"Microsoft excel has encountered a problem & needs to be closer. We are sorry for the inconvient"

As a result the file does not open.

If I try to open a new file it does not work netheir.

What shall I do
