Speakers in MacBook Pro do not work.

This morning, the speakers on my MacBook Pro (Early '09) stopped working, but the machine transmits through the headphone jack just fine. I've done a PRAM reset, and that hasn't fixed it. Anyone have a suggestion?

Plug the headphone in and out 5 or more times.

System Preference > Sound > Output Tab

Make sure that Internal Speakers are highlighted,Output volume slider is set right

and box next to Mute is not checked.

I had the same problem with my less than one year old MacBook Pro and when I took it into the Apple Store they found that the tip of the speakers adapter was stuck inside the port. They couldn't remove it and wanted me to pay an additional $550 to replace the hardware. I don't know if I should try to find some thin pliers (as tweezers don't grasp tight enough) or try placing the original adapter in an out to see if it will catch. So if I were you, it's not safe to continue the in and out process, as the same thing can happen to you. Be careful.

Hello,

I am having the same issue...internal speakers are not working on my MacBook Pro (purchased Aug 09). I tried a PRAM restart and I've tried putting the headphone jack in and out several times, as well as wiggling around a toothpick in the port. None of that seems to have worked. There was a red light emitted from the port a little while ago but now it's gone.

Any ideas?

Thank you!
