columns grayed out

columns grayed out

I would like to view as Columns but it is grayed out in Finder view options. Why is this? And is there a way to fix it?

If you want to apply that to the Desktop, you can't. The Desktop has only one choice (hence none others offered), Icon view.

If the issue is concerning viewing a specific folder, is this a folder you made? ...or one already there; if so, what one?

Or is it when viewing any folder?

I am looking through files on an External Hard Drive. When Searching for a certain file - I do not get the Column option in Finder - View: I do get List but not Column

After upgrading from Leopard to Snow Leopard, I have the same problem with greyed out column-view in find-mode. But this was not a problem in Leopard.

Has this part been left out during programming Snow Leopard or is there some creative solution for this problem?
