My system is running slow. When opening a new web page takes literally several minutes to load. Can speed it up a little bit by selecting a new wifi connection. Also having random ad click downloads when on yahoo. I heard ere is malware infecting 1:5 macs now. Just read the article about flashback and disabled java. Anything else I should consider?

Not if you are running Leopard. Get a decent anti-virus utility like ClamXav 2.2.5

To Kappy and Klaus1: I ran the antivirus ClamXav and nothing was detected, so there must be some other cause to my system running slowly. I suspect there is a program running in the background that I'm not aware of. Guess I need to have my tech guy friend come do some maintenance for me.

You don't have to wait for anyone. You can run Activity Monitor and see which applications are taking your CPU.
How would I know if my Mac had malware on it? What sort of problems will occur?
