No Pages version, No OSX version, no background whatsoever, but thanks to the power of the Internet, and my OcculoVision 4000, we are able to look at your screen and work it out for ourselves.
Could you just move to one side so we can see better?
Ahhh, have you actually updated it to the latest version of whatever Pages you are running?
Menu > Apple > Software Update…
In the case of Pages '09 that is:

In the case of Pages '08 that is:
http://support.apple.com/kb/DL808
Anything earlier it may not work at all with whatever? OSX you have installed, can't quite make it out with my OcculoVision 4000.
