    Hi all folks,

    Bob you are wrong.

Buy an AirPort in Europe, take it to the US and you got channel 1-11 only, too.

Apple/the AirPort evaluate the environmant where the AirPort is used, you get the allowed channels only, all the time.

You can fool a AirPort on two ways.

Take a used AirPort from europe to the US and you get channel 1-13.

Buy a new one, switch all your Mac setting to an european country and install the AirPort the first time.

But, prevent your Mac and AirPort to detect any other WLAN.

Don't do this, you got lots of trouble!

And it doesn't work well, the unavailable channels are in use, sometimes.

You can buy an AirPort somewhere and it works under the local permissions, all the time, in general.

    Bye, Lutz

Then, why would the AirPort Extreme that I bought in Europe produce channels 12 and 13 in the U.S.?

Are you saying that I bought a used AirPort Extreme?

    Hmm,

    nice to know this, Bob.

An AirPort moved from US to europa has channel 1-13 after the (initial) setup and looks like any other AirPort.

Do you know the country setting, the timezone setting, from the initial setup.

The channel detection function depend on the AirPort model (Extreme or Express), maybe.

    It's some times ago ...

    Sorry, Lutz

    p.s.

The Information about the automatic channel detection I got from the Apple Support in the past. This function depent on some AirPort models only, maybe. Or to the used AirPort Utility version.

In my experience there is no easy way to fool an AirPort or the AirPort Utility, but you can (modify the baseconfig file the AirPort Utility Resources, etc.).

In general, it's a bad idea to overrule the local permissions, don't do this.
