change date of photo, change date of photo

I have a really weird problem. I am trying to change the date of a photo. I know how to do this... you go to Photos, Adjust Date & Time and change it there. For some weird reason, when I put in a date of 06/20/2010 it will change it to a weird date like 12/24/1872. I can put the same date of 06/20/2010 and it will change it to some random date in another year like 1600. These are scanned photos that I scanned in. And, yes, I have it "modify the original file".

This, in turn, changes the order of my photos. Anyone have an idea?
