how do I transfer purchased items to iTunes library before updating iPhone?
I want to update my iPhone. It asks me to transfer purchased items to ITunes library. Could you tell me how?

How about transfer from Itunes "Puchased" to library; that option isn't available under the file menu in Itunes.
At top, inside iTunes choose Files > Devices > Transfer Purchases from iPhone
