Not able to update Itunes on Macbook

I am havent been able to update to the latest Itunes for my Macbook. I go through the software updates, and select Itunes to update it. It gets almost all the way through and then says there has been an error and wasnt able to download... Because of this, I am unable to download any shows/movies on my Itunes.

Any idea what I can do?

MacBook, Mac OS X (10.6.8)

To run Disk Utility's repair function on the root drive you will need to boot from your original install DVD. Boot from the DVD and select Disk Utility from the pull down menu. Then run repair disk.

However given your symptoms I'm not really sure this is going to buy you much. Once you run it if you still have the same problem post back and give the exact wording of the error message.

good luck

Open the applications folder on your hard drive. Then open the Utilities folder in that folder. The Disk Utility is in that folder. Launch Disk Utility and then click on your hard drive on the left side of the window and you can Verify Disk Permissions and Repair Disk Permissons.

EDIT - I have typically run the utility without booting from the install DVD, but I defer to Frank on this one.

True.

In the case the install DVD.

But not necessarily the original Install DVD -- the one that came with your Mac. Use only the same version as the version of OSX you're running.

So, if your Mac came with Snow Leopard, fine, use the original DVD.

But if it came with Leopard (or earlier), use only your Snow Leopard DVD.

See #6 in Using Disk Utility for details.

True, it does not have to be the DVD that came with the system if the original OS was pre Snow Leopard.

As the profile says the OP is running 10.6.8 then using the SL disks is correct regardless of what OS was shipped with the system.

Thanks for that correction, Pondini.

And to the OP definitely check out Pondini's site lots of very good information there.

Unfortunately I dont have the original disks, they are back home. I ran a disk utility check and it said that itunes was verified and ok. So, I tried downloading once again and I got the same message:

"The update could not be expanded, and may have been corrupted during downloading. The update will be downloaded and checked again the next time that Software Update runs."

I am also not able to update "Security Update 2012-001" version 1.1...
