Restore iCloud back up to iPhone

Today I backed up my iPhone to iCloud before restoring. Now my iPhone is restoring from the Computer backup from 6 months ago, not from iCloud. How can I restore from today's iCloud backup?

I keep trying to retore from a iCloud backup and it gets about 80-90% done and says failed because I am disconnected from the internet. I tried to restore from this back up 4 times wuile with Century Link internet. Then I switched to Comcsat internet and I am still having the same problem. Why does it get this far and then quit because the internet is dropping. I am pretty sure that the internet doesnt really drop.

If you had the backup file on your computer it might be possible using 3rd party software to extract the app data for a specific app from the backup and copy it back to the phone (for example, see http://www.macobserver.com/tmo/answers/how_to_restore_ios_application_data_from_ an_ios_backup/), however this wouldn't be possible if your only backup is in iCloud. As far as I know there is no mechanism to do anything other than restore the entire backup from iCloud.

Hi randers4...I just had to get a new iPhone4s (dropped previous one in water on accident today about 2pm). I just read through all these previous posts and it helped me start restoring my new phone from an icloud backup. Problem is I had turned off icloud I thought a couple weeks back because it was telling me no more storage, but when I reset phone and selected resotre from icloud backup there was one dated today at 6:30pm, which was after dropped in water but before I turned it ove to Apple for new phone. Previous icloud backup was May 19th. Which one would have been the right one to use?

Not sure how it would have backed up after being water damaged. Are you sure the one from today isn't from the new one? I suppose you would have nothing to lose by trying to restore from the one dated today just to see what happens (perhaps the time stamp on the backup is wrong). If it's corrupt, fails to restore, or isn't really a backup of your old phone then you can always go to Settings>General>Reset>Erase All Content & Settings and start over, this time restoring from the earlier backup.

Hi randers4;

I have a similar issue EDWARD7375: I lost all my iTalk data during a reset. It's all on icloud, i can see it (1.9 GB). but since my phone did an automatic backup on icloud since then, when i restored from backup, it did not inlcude iTalk and its data in the back up. I installed the app, and this time, erased all settings (but not data), and did a restore from backup hoping iCloud would may be see the app on the phone and sync it. It did not. I'm afraid to do what you suggest on this page won't work, since the last back up doesn't include the app, and backing the device now with the app might erase all the data on my Icloud. I hope thsi makes sense?

I'm really truly desperate at this point since this is my fieldwork interview recordings and losing them will be absolutely devastating.

Any suggestions on how to retrieve it?

Sorry but I'm really not sure how you would do this with an iCloud backup. If the backup were on your computer you could use iPhone Backup Extractor to extract the app data and then use an app like PhoneView (mac) or Touch Copy (pc or mac) to copy the app data back to your phone. However, as far as I'm aware, with an iCloud backup your only choice is to restore the entire backup, which it sounds like you already tried without success. I guess I wouldn't back up with iCloud again until you can confirm that there is no way to get your app data or you may overwrite it.

You may want to start a new post tomorrow over in the iCloud forum and/or consider talking to someone at the genius bar at an Apple Store or paying for AppleCare support so you could get a more definitive answer. Good luck though.

Thanks for your quick reply. I do have apple care, and talked to several people, and I heard different suggestions. Lastly, I'm told Griffin stores that data on their servers and I migth be able to retrieve it from them, if they haven't erased it yet. It still shocks me though, that I can see the app data on iCloud yet can't get it back on the phone 😟
