Restore iCloud back up to iPhone

Today I backed up my iPhone to iCloud before restoring. Now my iPhone is restoring from the Computer backup from 6 months ago, not from iCloud. How can I restore from today's iCloud backup?

You have to set up your phone as new by going to Settings>General>Reset>Erase All Content and Settings. Then go through the setup assistant on your phone again. You will be given the option to set up the phone as new or restore from an iCloud or iTunes backup, choose Restore from iCloud Backup. Be sure to plug your phone into a charger and have a wi-fi connection available, restoring from iCloud can take hours to complete.

Not sure what you are asking. If you enabled Find My iPhone on your phone before it was lost you can go to iCloud.com, log in and attempt to locate it. It must have been turned on before you lost it, however. Also, this will not work if the phone is turned off, had it's SIM removed, had location services or Find My iPhone turned off, or was restored as new. If you get a new phone, when you set it up you can restore from and existing iCloud backup if you have one.

Yesterday I needed to replace my iPhone and went to the local Apple Store. They were great and I left soon after with a new phone in my pocket. I then got home and tried to restore from iCloud and there was no backup available to restore from. I knew that my old iPhone was backed up to iCloud the previous night, so I knew it was there and only after I upgraded to the latest iOS that I was able to then Reset and Restore per these instructions.

Thus, note that if you get a replacement iPhone from the Apple Store and try to restore from iCloud that you will first need to ensure that you have the same version of iOS before you start the restore.

iCloud will only restore your old apps/data if you have an iCloud backup to restore from. If you do, during the process "your settings and accounts are restored and Backup starts downloading your purchased music, TV shows, apps, books, Camera Roll, and other content*. You may be prompted to enter the passwords for all accounts enabled on your device." (Copied from http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1766.)

hi randers4, you seem to know a lot about this... can you look at my question at the link below and see if you know the answer?

here is my question:

"I have the basic 5gb free storage from icloud. I stored my contacts on there and thats pretty much it. My iphone4 got lost so I got a new SIM card and put it into my fiancees old phone (also an iphone4). When i put in the new SIM, it downloaded all of my contacts to the phone immediately. But now, I need to plug into iTunes to get my apps and music. Only problem is, for some reason the last time iTunes did a sync it only copied 60 contacts into my MacBook Pro address book. So, now I dont know what to do. When i plug into iTunes it asks if I want to "restore from backup (the last one is March 30, 2012) or set up as new phone. I dont want it to restore from March 30, but I know I synced my phone with iTunes two weeks ago to put new music on my phone. So I am wondering if I set up as a new phone can I just sync the apps and music that I want off itunes onto my phone and then sync the iCloud contacts that are now on my phone onto my computer? Or will I lose my icloud backup in the process if I do this?! HELP!!!"

If you are talking about an iCloud backup that contains your Whatsapp app data and now you want to restore to that backup to recover it the steps are below. However, be aware that restoring from an earlier backup will revert all data and settings on your phone to those contained in the backup. If you have more recent data you will need to back that up first to avoid losing it. Be sure to sync your contacts and calendar with iCloud (Settings>iCloud>Contacts and Calendars>On) and import all your photos and videos to your computer (http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4083) before proceeding to avoid losing them. Also, sync your phone with iTunes to transfer any recent purchases to your iTunes library and while there perform a manual backup in iTunes by right-clicking on the name of your phone on the left sidebar and selecting Backup.

When all this is done, do the following:

  1. Go to Settings>General>Reset>Erase All Content & Settings
  2. Go through the setup assistant again as you did when your phone was new. During this process you will be given the option to Restore from iCloud Backup (see image below). Select this.
  3. Connect your phone to your wall charger and make sure it is connected to wi-fi and let it restore. Be patient as sometimes restoring from an iCloud backup can take hours to complete.
