Q: Trouble-shooting an HDMI connection

when i plug my macbook pro (bought in 2010) to my television i am only seeing my screen saver image on my television screen, although my laptop screen is not on a screen saver... any suggestions to try?

MacBook Pro, Mac OS X (10.6.8)

    Open your Displays system preferences and look at your Arrangement.  That specifies the spatial relationship of the two "monitors".  Arrange as desired by sliding the two "screens" around.

     

    Is your main monitor still your MBP?  That would be the one with the little white menu in the Arrangement picture.

     

    Are the resolutions correct?  Refresh rates (if they are present)?

     

    Can you drag the mouse from one screen to the other?

     

    I think you are misinterpreting what you are seeing.  If screen saver was active just moving the mouse would deactivate it.  There are many screen savers which only draw to one screen.  But they would still turn off when you do anything with the machine like moving the mouse as I said.
