Final Cut Pro 6.0.6, Sony HDR-PJ10E, Exporting interlacing issues.

Hi all,

I'm wondering if anyone can help me?

I am recording using a Sony HDR-PJ10E in 1080/50i, I then capture using the standard log and transfer way. The problem is when I come to exporting, the edited or unedited footage for that matter is inerlaced. I know the that shooting in 1080/50i the footage will be interlaced but can be sorted in exporting. I have tired numerous amount of different setting and codecs for importing and exporting but as yet none of them have worked. I have managed to remove the interlacing using compressor but this then introduces pixelation. In final cut pro it's self the footage plays back without interlacing.

Just to check the footage and the computer works, I imported and exported the same footage in imovie with no problems. But the thing with imovie is the setting for importing can't be changed. I again done the same test this time with a different computer and final cut pro x and again had no problems but again the importing setting chant be change.

Any suggestion would be greatly appreciated, many thanks in advance.

Jason,

Import your footage using log and transfer, select AVCHD/Pro Res from the drop down menu (little gear wheel top right). In a new sequence drop one of your clips onto the timeline and when you get the message asking if you want the sequence settings to match the clip settings click "yes".

Edit your footage, render and export quicktime movie with "current settings", take that into compressor and use whatever settings you need. By the way, you didn't say what your final delivery is. DVD? web?

When you say FCP doesn't show interlacing, zoom your canvas to over 100% and see if you see it.

Do you export from final cut using file: export: quicktime movie (not quicktime conversion) using current settings? That's the way you should be doing it.

Then bring the resulting file into compressor and apply the appropriate dvd preset. You should customize this preset in the frame controls panel setting deinterlace and resizing to best. You can mark an in and out in the preview window to do a short test.

The settings that I have found that work to get rid of the initial problem is using apple pro rez 422 HQ with the 1920x108050i as the intial footage was interlaced, but then select where is says field start to non. the I then export just using quicktime using current settings.

The pixelation isnt in the orginal footage as it orginally interlaced which was my first problem. I havent thought about bringing the now exported footage back in FCP. I know you suggest using compressor after but all the setting I have tried make no difference.
