Need new hard drive for iMac

Been to the Apple store and they tell me I need a new hard drive. They also said don't buy from them as I can get it cheaper elsewhere. Any recommendations? And does anyone know what kind I need for my machine? They said they don't make the original one anymore but that I could get a larger one (up to a terrabyte) for a good price.

If it's not one of the newer models that requires a proprietary cable or has proprietary software (as it seems, since Apple told you to get one on your own) these have an excellent reputation for speed and reliability. They are also currently among the least expensive. There are more expensive ones, but don't let the price fool you.

I have an early 2008 iMac that I put a SSD Cruical drive into and it makes it feel like a whole new computer. The SSD drives are smaller 128 or 256 MB and somewhat pricey $160 - $240 but it makes it boot faster and applications load almost instantaneously. You get a new harddrive and a performance boost to boot.
