This depends on how your recipient has his email program configured. Most email programs are configured to ignore recipt requests, if the program even supports them at all. In such a case, nothing you can do on your end will get a receipt returned from those recipients, no matter what email program you are using.


Apple's Mail program doesn't have an option to turn on receipt requests; likely because Apple knows the chances of receiving one are small because of what I wrote above, and doesn't want to be inundated with support calls of why the feature isn't working.


That said, you can add a custom header to outgoing messages that will generate a return receipt request. Google "mac mail read receipt" for the Terminal command you will need to enter.
