Is there a way that I could use my built in camera just as a video recorder?

I just want to record myself.

Pick the app that offers the specific features you need for the particular recording

you want to do with your built-in camera. All these apps will work, but they work differently.

Your Mac's Photo Booth > Help menu command lets you search for

how to nake a movie clip (or still snapshot) using the Photo Booth app.

Your Mac's iMovie > Help or this web page version of the same help explains

how to "Record video directly into iMovie". iMovie can also edit and enhance your clip(s), too.

Use QuickTime Player's File > New Movie Recording menu command to record video with it. You can alter the quality and file size of your recorded clips by using QTX's preferences as shown in this image:

For more specialized functions than those offered by the camera software already included with your Mac, you can search the Mac App Store for other apps that can use your camera.
