Time Capsule Issue setup

Hi,

I'm finding this really difficult to do and I am sure it something really easy.

How do I make it my only router. I have been using a Netopia router and a WD Backup for Wifi/Time Machine Backups. I bought a new 2tb Time capsule to replace the 2 items with one, but I have been trying all day to try and make it my only router.

I thought that All I would have to do is plug the cable and maybe put in a password but it not working.

I have went through the maual with no difference.

Should I only be using an etheret lead.

Anyone can help.

Thanks,

Morgan

What kind of broadband do you have? Is the netopia a modem as well as router?

If you have a cable service (I am a bit lost with plug in the cable if you are referring to cable modem or ethernet cable), there should be a cable that used to go to the netopia router.. you plug that into the TC wan port. Then power down the whole network.. leave it off a while then restart the cable modem.. wait a couple of min then the TC.. wait again.. then clients.. if it doesn't get public IP repeat the procedure with longer wait.. 15min .. then overnight. In the end sometimes you need to call the cable company and get them to reset the port.

If you have adsl tell us.....what modem etc.

Sorry, I'm not very good with the technical terms.

I don't have cable. It's a netopia wireless modem that I'm using got broadband at the moment.

What I did at the start was take the dsl lead from the netopia router and put in the port at the back of the TC and started it. I followed the instructions but the network can't be found.

I'm thinking it's something really simple that I'm missing out.

Should I reset the TC and start again

Should I be using only a ethernet connection into my WAN port as my other router that I have been currently using is not an ethernet. Its a type of telephone wire that is being used connected to a splitter, 1 for telephone and 1 or internet. I have spare ethernet cables but they wont fit into the splitter.

Would the solution be to buy a new splitter that can accomidate an ethernet cable and try it again.

I have tried to set the TC to replace my current router and it asks me to put in the ethernet cable into the WAN port.

You must have a modem.. the TC has no modem.. if the netopia is adal ie it has a phone cable running to it, then it cannot be removed from the system.. you can bridge it but I have no idea how.. or if possible you have to use pppoe authentication..

The TC can easily be bridged and I don't think you have a choice here.

Open the manual setup in airport utility .. go to internet tab and select connection sharing..

Select off, bridged mode.. then plug into the netopia.

If you want to do more than that I would advise you to get a computer tech to help.. think of the whole thing as a washing machine.. you call the tech to fix that.. the network is the same.
