Q: Extending Wireless Network

I have both an Apple 2TB Time Capsule and an Apple Airport Express. I am wondering if it is possible to extend the wireless network from my Time Capsule using my Airport Express without connecting them via ethernet? Thanks!

Note: I cannot seem to access my Airport Express using Aiport Utility (it will not show up when I plug it in to an outlet).

 

Time Capsule Firmware & Name: 7.6.1  -  AIR FINKY    

Airport Express Firmware & Name: 7.6.1  -  AIR FINKY 2

Airport Utility Version: 5.5.3

You need to perform a Factory Default Reset on the AirPort Express (AX).

 

Power off the AX

Wait a full minute

Hold in the reset button on bottom of the AX and keep holding it in for an additional 8-10 seconds while you simultaneously plug the AX back into power

Release the reset button after the hold period and allow 40-45 seconds for the AX to restart to a slow, blinking amber light

 

We assume that you have the 10.6.8 operating system  (We asked if you did)

 

Open Macintosh HD > Applications > Utilities > AirPort Utility

Click Manual Setup

 

Follow Apple's Support Document. Although an AirPort Extreme is illustrated as the "remote", the instructions for an AirPort Express are exactly the same.

    It might also help that I setup my Airport Express first before having later bought and setup my Time Capsule. Also, on a side note, my Time Capsule's name is actually CrimsonLimez (not that this info would matter).

    Yes, assuming that you have the 802.11n version of the AirPort Express. If you are not sure, check the label on the side of the Express for the Model No.

     

    A1264 will hopefully appear there.

     

    Post back if you have this model so that we can continue with instructions. Let us know if you are still using the 10.6.8 operating system on your Mac as well.

    My Airport Express Model No. is A1264, just like you said. What are the next steps to follow?

    Ah yes, I am running 10.6.8 (sorry I missed that point earlier). With your post and the link to the apple support page, I managed to figure it out! The factory reset was what I needed to access the router.
